create your future not resolutions

The new year brings a whole set of new resolutions.

But how many of us actually remember what our resolutions are 1 or 2 months after we initially write them down?

Another year another set of broken resolutions.

What if it doesn’t have to be this way.

It is possible.

How?

By creating your future.

But it doesn’t have to be a daunting task.

Start by closing your eyes and imagining where you want to be in 10 years.

  • Do you want to be in the same job?
  • Want to try something new?
  • Want to create more abundant wealth?
  • Find your soul mate?

Just let your imagination run wild.  Yes, you have permission to let it run free.

Why create your future?

Because it’ll help you get where you want to be.

Resolutions are about changing something in our life that is not right.  But we often don’t think about the end result and get stuck on the task of the resolution.

A popular resolution is dieting.

As popular as it may be, it’s not that exciting or motivating.

But if you create your future to something more inspiring like becoming a natural foodologist helping people learn to love healthy foods so they can live long and fulfilled lives, then the you becoming more invested in changing your own diet in a fun and non-intimidating way.  In order for you to be a natural foodologist, then you naturally must learn to love these types of food too so that you can authentically share your experience with others and guide them on their journey.

Of course this example is all made up.

The beauty though, is that you get to create what you want to do, what inspires you.

  • If you want to exercise more and also do more philanthropy, maybe make combine the resolutions into a goal to run a marathon for charity.
  • If you want to learn how to eat better, take up a cooking class and plan on cooking a special meal for a loved one.
  • If you want to learn French, take a class and make it a goal to go to France to practice your French in front of the Champs Elysees.

Be creative and imaginative.

Living into your created future is an amazing experience.  You get to fulfill your dreams and live passionately and joyfully.

Resolutions will no longer be something you do kicking and screaming for a few days before letting it fall to off your radar.  It will be something you look forward to doing and work towards.  It will be part of your DNA, your way of life.

Your actions to fulfill your future will have a purpose!  It will remind you why you are performing the various tasks, even when you face a challenge.

The best tool I’ve found to create your future is from Lululemon.

The tool is designed for you to envision your future and set timeframe in which you will complete the goals.  I created mine and am excited about the future!

Post your goals up on your wall to serve as a reminder for you. I have mine framed and sitting on my desk.  You can also create a vision board to help you visualize your future.  Choose pictures and words that help reinforce the future you want to create.  Here’s mine.

I invite you to start creating your own future today!
