Anyone can be an Olympian: Here’s how

No disrespect to all the Olympians out there, but anyone can be an Olympian.

Why do I say this?

Because we all possess the power to excel, to be great.

However, this energy is often left untapped.

Learning to harness that energy gives you access to perform at high levels and watch your dreams explode.  You may not go to the actual Olympics and compete, but you’ll have your very own Olympic moment.

Here are some steps you can take to achieve this:

  • Dream / Vision / Goal – You must know where you are going and where you want to be.  Otherwise, how will you get there?  Spend some time writing down what you want.  You can create a vision board or anything else that will motivate you to move forward, even when you get discouraged or tired.
  • Have your failures be a win – Every failure is an opportunity to learn.  Don’t run away from failure.  Experience it fully.  Look at where you can improve.  Every great athlete wants to get better.  They watch tapes of their performance to see where they can improve.  Use your failures to learn something new.  Even if you didn’t fail, be nip picky and see what you can do better next time
  • Embrace pressure / challenges – Relish in challenges and pressure situations.  These situations help you grow.  If there’s no pressure or challenge, there is no growth.   Think of it as another opportunity.  You get to step outside of your comfort zone.  Recently, Gabby Douglas, 2012 Olympic All Around Gymnastics Champion said, “The pressure [means] ‘Game on.’  The pressure should make us do better and greater things. It helps me. It motivates me. It definitely pumps you up and you get so hyped up you want to stick every landing and get as many 10s as you can.”  Let the challenges and pressure motivate you to be better and to go for it.
  • Dedication and hard work –  You got to work for your dreams.  Living your dream takes dedication.  And what you focus on becomes your reality.  It’s true.  Have you ever had a time when you were super focused on getting something done.  It could have been at work on a project or at home with your family.  The thing is, when you are focused, things get done.  Why not apply it to your life and your dream/vision/goal?

The best thing about the Olympics is that it brings out the best in all the athletes.   Treat your life like the Olympics and you too can have your Olympic moment.
