Are you willing to do something that scares you?

I have a confession to make. I have been afraid.

Afraid of what people think. Afraid of succeeding. Afraid of the future. Afraid of being vulnerable.

And I’ve been afraid of letting people know about this.

That fear has stopped me from going after some of my goals before. It has served as a shield – protecting me from getting hurt, rejection, pain. I have been afraid of people finding out “truth about me” because maybe they won’t like me any more.

Fear is funny. In a way it protects us from the rejection or being hurt. And in a way we need that fear to help us gauge when we are in danger.

At the same time, fear can be limiting. It stops us from going out on a limb. It keeps us small. I mean, who hasn’t been afraid of telling a guy or girl that you like them. Or afraid of trying something new because you are not sure how something is going to turn out.

Do you remember a time when you let fear stop you from doing something?

I certainly have lots of instances of this.

But more and more, I have been making an effort to push past the barriers that stop me. And let me tell you it’s not been easy.

Even writing these weekly JOY notes is a victory. Every week, when I sit down to write you a note, I am scared. I’m scared of people not liking what I say. I’m scared that I won’t add value to your day. I’m scared you’ll turn away.

But I do it anyways. Because maybe you will find value. Maybe you’ll be inspired.

I have to release that fear within me to allow for a greater possibility to open up.

This week…Do something that scares you…

Each time you are up against something you are afraid of, you have the opportunity to allow for your courage to move through it to show up.

And instead of letting your fear define you, you can let your courage define you.

You could tell someone that you like them.

You could sing in front of strangers.

You could take flying lessons.

You could start a new business.

Whatever it is, go after it with full force. Look forward. Look at is as an opportunity to be courageous and grow.

Go ahead and go after whatever you want.

Who knows what you can create.

Also, let us support you. Comment on the post below! Why? Because we believe in community and helping each other out.

with peace, love, and joy!
