Welcome to 2013! We’re celebrating YOU!

the joy note lo res Happy New Year!!

A new year means a fresh start and that’s what we are doing at {the JOY depot}.

We are coming to you on Wednesdays and turning “hump day” to “JOY DAY”!! Doesn’t “JOY DAY” that sound much better than “hump day”?

In this new year, we are celebrating YOU! Yes you! And all your awesomeness!

It’s all about YOU!

We know who you are. You are fire-cracker ready to take on the world whether you know it or not.

But something may be stopping you. You might be feeling a little stuck, or unsure about where you are and what you are doing.

It’s okay, I’ve definitely been there too. I was unsure about my direction in life.

It seemed as though I was wandering aimlessly, trying to figure out who I was and what I want. I’ve tried many things that just didn’t work – like my blown attempt at starting a non-profit with friends. I put lots of mullah into it and it fizzled. I didn’t understand exactly what I was doing at the time and I was trying to figure it out as I went along. Since some of my hard earned cash went away in a split second, I beat myself up for being so “stupid” for not planning things out more carefully or doing more research. The list goes on and on and on.

So what does this have to do with you. Read on and all shall be revealed.

Well, these days, mistakes are kinda shunned. I mean, I felt down right foolish for losing money on a business venture, even though it was for a noble cause. I felt like a failure. It scared me from trying to launch anything again. I didn’t want to tell anyone about this – actually, I really wanted to curl up in a ball and cry.

That was until I realized that mistakes are really not mistakes. Mistakes are just part of the path.

We don’t know where the life will lead us. And usually the path isn’t a straight line. But if we treat mistakes as a badge of courage and reward the effort, nothing is lost. Why? Because it was a lesson that needed to be learned.

I learned a valuable lesson with my failed venture and it wasn’t until I could accept it, honor it, and yes, even cherish it did I have the courage to move forward.

You may be dealing with a similar issue. Something happened that was not so great, maybe even a mistake. You may have even felt like a failure. It’s okay. Those emotions naturally come up. Let it come up.

But once you start to treat your failure as a gift, things will shift in your life. Once you forgive yourself or whomever else that caused that mistake, your heart will magically open up to new possibilities. And when you start to celebrate the good, the bad, and the ugly in your life, a your life will dramatically change!

But don’t take my word for it. Try it out.

Start small.

Did you make an error in a presentation?

Did you forget to tell someone something?

Notice it.

Then tell yourself, “It’s ok. It was a mistake and I’m so grateful to have made it. I have learned a great lesson today. In fact, I am so excited to have made the mistake that celebrating it like CRAZY!”

Keep on telling yourself this until it the restless feeling inside of you releases and you start to open your heart again and you try again.

And know that when you make a mistake, you are in good company. Some of the most famous people in the world have failed. In fact, Thomas Edison famously failed thousands of times before he finally invented the light bulb.

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” ? Thomas A. Edison

So go ahead and give this a whirl.

And let us help you celebrate your mistake!! Comment below and let us know what mistake you are celebrating!
