Let the REAL YOU Shine!

Desiree East - quote with logo

This past month, I’ve been immersed in my Level 2 Kundalini Yoga Training. The course is called Authentic Relationships.

“Perfect”, I thought. It’ll help me manifest relationship!

So far it has helped me manifest a relationship – just not the one I expected.

You see, in order to have a relationship with someone else, I had to develop a relationship with myself first!

But why?

Something my teacher said in the course struck me.

It was like it unlocked a door that I didn’t know was locked inside of my brain.

He said (and I’m paraphrasing), an Authentic Relationship means you are giving authority or authorizing your self to relate to another self.

Let me break it down.

Basically, you are giving yourself permission to BE YOU to YOURSELF and other people. It gives you the power!

This blew my mind.

Because for many years, I’ve been a people pleaser. Always wanting to please other people no matter what it took and how I felt. I sought love. I craved it.

But by doing so, I was denying myself the permission to be me. I didn’t give myself the authority or permission to be me. In effect, I was sacrificing my relationship with myself while chasing relationships with other people.

Maybe you’re in the same boat – pleasing others while denying your true self.

When you, I, and other people spend time pleasing others without taking a look at our true feelings, we diminish our own light and power because you are giving it to someone else.

In the end, the key to having a real relationship with someone else is to first have an authentic relationship with yourself.

Here’s how:

  1. Identify what you want, your values, your beliefs, your love.
  2. Examine your habit patterns. Do you support your values, beliefs, and love?
  3. Examine your thought patterns. What do you tell yourself?
  4. Start owning your power. Create new habit patterns and thought patterns. You don’t have to do all of them at once. Just choose one. Maybe you notice you criticize yourself when you do something wrong. You could actively try to notice it. Make it a game and see how many you notice.

Also, you want real change to happen, commit to it! Take these steps to build an authentic relationship with yourself.

And please share how you are creating a relationship with yourself by commenting below! This is a community and by sharing where you are, you could help someone else (remember, YOUR VOICE DOES MATTER)!
