The secret to fixing any problem

2013 - The secret to fixing any problem

Do you sometimes feel like your life is all over the place?

Maybe you feel a little crazy and scattered – trying to juggle your job, family, friends, while still trying to find time for yourself.

I’ve totally been in this boat. In fact it’s exactly how I’ve been feeling this week and I’m still in the thick of it. I overcommitted myself to all these projects and I’m now finding myself working hard to complete each task. And today is day 3 of getting less than 5 hours of sleep!

What about you? Do feel like you’re all over the place? Or feel like you have too much going on?

So, what do when you feel like this?

What if I told you not to do anything? And that “doing” is the problem.

I’ll pause for a moment and let you ponder…

Ready?  Let me explain.

We go through life trying do. Whether we mean to or not, we do this and that to control a situation. We are constantly trying to fix and figure out.

Sound familiar?

I’m guilty of this too!

Well, that’s all fine and good. But only if you want to keep on repeating this cycle of constantly fixing problems.  You are in perpetual reaction mode.

If you truly want to break out of this cycle, you can’t keep on fixing.

Albert Einstein once said, the definition of insanity is “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

So, have you been trying to fix your situation? Have you been wondering why it’s not working?

The issue is that when we try to fix something, we are thinking linearly. We are thinking about the problem and how to solve the problem.

This is how our brains are wired. Back in the day (and I mean way back in the day…stone age style), men and women were only concerned with how to fix a problem.

But it doesn’t work in this day in age.

Things aren’t linear any more.

So many things are coming at us from all directions because we live in a non-linear world.

When you try to fix your situation, you go into problem solving mode and your attention automatically narrows and focus. Great for fixing problem, but not necessarily the best long term strategy.

Lately, despite being super busy, I’ve had to learn to let go and just let things be the way they are.

This has been a huge challenge because I am a fixer. I want to make things right.

But by not fixing things and letting things be just the way they are, new opportunities have opened up.

The thing is, when you fix, you resist. Again, you are trying to solve for something. This is a form of resistance.

When you be, you just are. You are neither resisting nor agreeing to what is. Things are what they are and you move forward. By just being, you are in a state of neutrality.

And with neutrality comes clarity.

When you react, you see one solution. When you are neutral, you see all possibilities. (hint…you can tweet this if you agree…).

And if you can practice neutrality in the moment – even when the s**t hits the fan so to speak – nothing can rattle you. You are in peace and open to the endless possibilities in the world.

There are also forces outside of us – whether you believe in GOD (in whatever form) or the power of the universe or not – that cannot be explained.

We don’t see it, but it’s there.

Have you considered that you are being tested by the universe?

It’s true! The state of unrest is actually a test from the universe. It will keep on showing up until you master it and remain in a neutral space.

Why does it do this?

Because it wants you to grow and stretch.  To be your highest self.  When you are neutral, you are your highest self.  But if you don’t know what a positive and negative experience is, you won’t be able to find that balance in life.

Really the purpose of life is to find that balance from within.

Every challenge you face is to help you reach that space.

So, Your goal this week is to just be!

A simple way to do this is to breath. Calming the breath calm the heart and then the mind.
