Keep dancing when life throws you a curveball

 2013 - Keep Dancing

This was not how things were supposed to end.

I started this day on a high note.  After many months of struggling in my professional and personal life, everything was on an upward trajectory.  My business was finally flourishing with all these abundant opportunities and I was dating someone I adored.

Life was GOOD!  And I felt so blessed.

The day began with me making the Simple Tips video.  This particular simple tip of the week wasn’t something I was intending to share this week, but in my gut I felt like it was the perfect message to share so I went ahead and filmed it.

The simple tip this week is all about dancing when life throws you a few curveballs.  I’ve been thrown many curveballs in my life and I always get through the challenging times by remembering that life is a dance.  Well, little did I know that another curveball was about to take the very same day.

Fast forward twelve hours and I am curled up in my bed with tears streaming down my eyes. “This can’t be happening”, I was thinking.  “What went wrong?”

All day I was excited to hang out with the guy I was dating after not being able to spend time with him the last few days because we were both busy. But instead of hanging out, he told me he wasn’t ready to be in a serious relationship.  I’ve heard the same story before from past guys I’ve dated.  That I’m a great person, but he’s not ready and that I deserve someone who would really honor me. Blah Blah Blah.

F that. I’ve heard it before and I couldn’t believe I was hearing it again.  What went wrong?

We ended up talking for quite a long time, which was bittersweet.  I knew that I wouldn’t see him again after tonight, or at least in the same capacity as before.  What we had was gone, taken away in an instant.

My heart sank when he started to break up with me and I couldn’t help not being upset, sad, angry all at once.  I put on a brave face and said it was ok.  I didn’t know what else to say.  What else do you say when someone breaks your heart?  I can’t convince him otherwise.  And I wasn’t about to convince him to be with me when he didn’t want to be.

Now as I sit here writing this, I’m realizing I need to take my own advice from this morning.  It’s funny how the universe works.  It’s like it knew I would end up needing my own advice.

When life throws you curveballs, keep dancing.  Cultivate the strength to go through all the ups and downs.  Because there will be both ups and downs in your life.  You have to be strong enough to ebb and flow with what shows up in your life, even if you F’ing hate it.

After he left, I wanted to scream and I did for a brief moment. I let all that hurt out, anger, and sadness out of my system.

I know that have to keep dancing.  There really is no other way.  In away, turning on this computer to write this post is part of my dance.  My wounds are slowly starting to heal and I am no longer upset or sad.  I am better able to appreciate what we had.  It was beautiful and exactly what I needed.  The universe always provides the right people in our lives at the right time.

So now it’s your turn. I encourage you to keep on dancing.  Dance when you are happy, dance when you are sad.  And once you learn how to keep on dancing, life will become full of joy.

This was a slightly different take on my normal simple tips posts.  But hopefully you take something away from this post that will help you on your journey.

“Dance, when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you’re perfectly free.” – Rumi (you can tweet this)
